While living in Munich during the early 90s, actually in 1992, I had the privilege of attending a concert of Mannheim Steamroller with Chip Davis. During the intermission they were selling all sorts of Mannheim Steamroller paraphernalia. Naturally, being a MS fanatic, I decided to have a look. I wasn't interested in any tee-shirts or coffee mugs with a picture of Chip on it. No offense Chip but I'd rather listen to your music than look at your ugly mug. I was about to leave when I noticed some spiral binders with Mannheim's Christmas Album covers being colorfully displayed. When I opened one up I was pleasantly surprised to find that these were in fact the orchestra scores. To any of you who have purchased popular sheet music in the past you may have understood my skepticism into thinking that this was merely a 'Mannheim Steamroller score for Dummies' version of their music. So I slowly turned to the first page of the first song, 'Hark the Herald Angels Sing'. To my amazement there were thirteen staffs, seven treble and four bass clefs and even a part for percussion staring back at me. I still didn't want to get too excited, so I closed my eyes, took a deep breath and opened them up again. Wow! dotted sixteenth notes, embellishment notation, it was all here. I was like a 'swine in scheisse'. It sounds better in German. Anyway, this is my very humble attempt to performing these pieces that I enjoy hearing at this time of the year. And once again, I must apologize for this, my first attempt at creating a CD recording in the digital domain. It's a whole new ball game and I'm just trying to bunt for a base hit. I hope you enjoy the results.
