Hotel Donnerhof - Fulpmes - Stubaital Valley

I have to tell a little story about this hotel and it’s owners the Steuxner family.

On my first overseas assignment with BMW, the International Systems group that I was working with decided we were going to make a ski weekend from Munich. We chose the Stubaital valley because of the glacier there and we knew we would be guaranteed skiing even though it wasn’t prime skiing season. There are many towns along the road up the valley to the Glacier and we hadn’t made any reservations for the weekend. So we started looking for hotels with ZimmerFrei (rooms available) signs on them. There are several towns along the valley’s main road and Fulpmes was the second town and third or so hotel that we tried to see if they had rooms for the 14 of us along on this weekend ski ferien. It was about 8PM when we approached the Donnerhof to see if they had rooms. The owner, Hans Steuxner said that he had two rooms available but that he also had a pension down the street with rooms as well. After a discussion within the group we thanked Herr Steuxner and said we were going to see if there were any other rooms available up the valley. To make a long story as short as possible, after the 4th town and about 12th hotel we decided to go back to the Donnerhof and see if the rooms were still available. Well it was about 11:30PM when we knocked on the door of the hotel. Again Herr Steuxner answered and said that the rooms were indeed still available. As we turned to go to our cars and gather our things Herr Stenxner asked if we would like something to eat? He opened up his kitchen and prepared all of us hot meals to eat. We gave the girls the two hotel rooms and the rest of the guys went down to the pension for the evening. I will never forget the hospitality that we were given that evening and we must have stayed at least a half dozen more times at the Donnerhof hotel. We even flew over from the States for a special birthday for Jo to celebrate there. And if you go do, don’t forget to try their Apfelstruedel. It is auzgezeichnet.
